Kirketon Hotel - no - it's in Kings Cross (and, I think, not too nice!)
Trickett's B&B - I have no idea - where is it?
I presume you mean the University of Sydney, not the University of Technology, or UNSW, or one of the others? It's on the edge of the business district, on the main western artery out of the city. Any city hotel would be fine - you'd just catch a bus down George Street.
I think I noticed some serviced apartments on Missenden Road, Camperdown the other day (possibly Medina apts - I was on my way to hospital, and may not have been thinking too clearly!)
There are a number of B&B's in Glebe - most of which are walking distance, or at least short bus trip to the uni.
Newtown, likewise.
Sydney Uni is a good walk from Redfern railway station (but not impossible), but bus is the best form of transport - and there's plenty of them. Don't even think of a car!
How long are you planning to stay?

Just for openers, have a look at this site: http://www.wattlehouse.com.au/. This is in the suburb of Glebe, which Margo correctly mentioned as a likely choice. Other sites worth looking at might be http://getaway.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=16215 and http://www.physics.usyd.edu.au/accom.html.
There's a well-regarded B&B in Margo's other favoured suburb, Newtown, but off-hand I can't think of the name of it; I will post what I have, and maybe get back onto this thread a little later.

Got it! It's Ardmore House, Newtown. It got a good write-up on Virtual Tourist. Here's the website: http://www.ardmorehouse.com.au/. Note that it would probably be a five-or-ten-minute bus ride to the Uni of Sydney.

The old Grace Bros Building is a hotel now "Hotel Uni Lodge" but I would ask if there is street noise as it is the main road west out of town and very busy. But safer than maybe staying down a quiet street around there.
