having lived in S.Korea for 8 months, i would suggest new zealand, although i haven't been there. there is plenty to do and see in s.korea, but i can't imagine coming here just for kicks unless i had seen most of Asia already. i can tell you whatever you want to know, just email me. later.
-Ty

It depends on what you want to see and enjoy. Because those countries offer two different things. If you are not really sure, you can go to both places stopping over in Korea. From Korea to New Zealand, it takes around 6 hours or more. Check about stopover with airlines. I lived in Seoul for 23 years. If you have any question about S.Korea, let me know.

To me it would depend on what kind of experience you want. S. Korea is such a different culture. new Zealand is gorgeous (South Island particularly) and easy to get around because of the language, etc. South Korea is full of people; New Zealand full of sheep.

I'm 24 years old and work for KNIT at marketing department (IT consulting and S/W vendor in Korea).
I think, each country has great culture enough to give you satisfaction
I really want to introduce Korea's honorable culture to worldwide peoples and also want to know other country's culture. So, I suppose we have a good time for communicating and introducing each other's culture, politics, peoples, and so on.
If you have a plan for visiting South Korea (for traveling, business trip or more), give me a chance for introducing Korean culture. I can guide you around Seoul, especially good shopping centers, theaters, antique places, Korean traditional places, Korean young people's favorite places and so on. But, I can only do these activities during weekend because I'm an employee. Maybe, 14:00~20:00 on Saturday and 10:00~20:00 on Sunday are available. If you are interested in my suggestion or want more information, contact me through E-mail.
I chose not to go to Korea (though I went to Nepal, India, Thailand, Bali, Australia, Figi and NZ). NZ was great. We camped there for 10 days mostly on the South Island. On a return visit, which I hope to make, I would fly into Christ Church, rent a car, drive to Kaikourri and see the whales, dolphins and sea lions, then drive south to see mountains, penguins, glaciers. I would trek and enjoy the sights of the South Island. NZ is very rural and beautiful. Towns are small and sparkling clean. The food and architecture are not the reasons to go there. But everything else is.
my wife and i went to NZ in january and we absolutely loved it! we're going to seoul in november so we'll know a little more about the comparison then. we stayed in auckland and the bay of islands. we stayed at a wonderful b&b in both places (not expensive!). i highly recommend auckland with trips to the bay of islands, rotorua, waitomo. the frommer's guide is a great one for that trip.
