Singapore Air or Qantas?

I'm looking at flying to Australia in the coming months and am debating between Qantas and Singapore Air. I'm also debating between Economy and business. Can anyone compare the 2 airlines in Economy and/or Business? Thanks!

Having flown both QF & Singapore recently - go with Singapore it is miles ahead of Qantas in every regard. Qantas economy is very cramped, noisy, poor food, poor audio on their entertainemnt system. Singapore economy is much better in all areas. In Business class Singapore is again miles ahead - in fact you really can't compare. If you do fly Qantas Business make very sure you sit upstairs if it's a jumbo - the downstairs Business class is very very noisy with flight attendants from 1st class through all the time to the galley. I'd fly Singapore every time. If you'd like further comments check out the Airline Opinions at www.airlinequality.com

Clare,
a big difference for us on a long flight is that Singapore Airlines has individual TV units for every seat, even in economy, where you can watch movies or play games to your heart's content. Qantas is putting them in their planes at present and the plan is to have them finished by 2003.
Singapore economy was excellent, quite good food (amazing!), good service.
Kay

Yes Singapore is much, much better then Qantas! The only thing Qantas is better at is their lounges at the airport(mostly British Airways lounge that give access to Qantas passengers).

The food inflight is above par because they are created at a location somewhere in the Maldives. There is a small group of islands that houses the Singapore Airlines chefs. There they prepare the dishes that are served in all SIA flights. I know all this because my sister once spent a holiday there with her ex who was the guy who decided which dish went on which plane! Talk about a fantastic job.

Perhaps the fact that a business air magazine voted Qantas the best airline to Australia for 8 consecutive years means that they factored in safety as well as whether you had the latest movies.
I vote for safety all the time and I could not care less if the food is prepared in the Maldives or not - perhaps that was the reason that there was a food poison scare on Singapore Airlines a while back, I am not sure the Maldives have health regulations for food preparation that is world recognised.

SIA has the youngest, prettiest stewardesses in their tight kebayas. Qantas has aged wide bodied ones. Nuff said.

Dear Sing
I am much more like the Qantas bodies than the Singapore ones and not being a male it does not matter to me if someone has a large backside. Please don't discriminate against cuddly girls unless of course you are a scrawny prawn yourself. If body size is the criteria for a good airline then heaven help us!

The service attention level in Singapore is better. I think it's more of cultural thing being asian myself. Call each airline and ask the seat size and space between each chair if you really want the most accurate data. I recently flew business Qantas to Sydney and I thought everything was fine. Not quite as nice and attentative as SA but not enough to make me not want to fly Qantas again. By the way, choose the lower floor for business class. Flying in the second floor is like staying in the second floor of a house - much higher temperature and noiser background noise because the air is rushing just about your head vs the lower cabing where the second floor is above you and provides more sound insulation. Also the flight attendants told me that 90% of people request the upper floor so that if a flight is not full the lower floor will have plenty of extra seats, storage space and have better service.

Do you want to support an Australian company or a Singaporean one?
