Rugby in Sydney

We will be in Sydney in a couple weeks and wanted to go to see the rugby game on Aug. 25 at Aussie Stadium. A couple questions: How easy is it to get to the stadium and how long would it take from the Rocks area? Should we buy tickets ahead of time online or is it easy to find tickets at the game or from scalpers?
Thanks!

I guess you are talking about a rugby league game on a sunday afternnon.
Aussie stadium holds about 40,000.
Typical attendance at rugby league games is about 10,000.
No trouble getting tickets at the gate.
About 10 minutes by cab from the rocks.
I would get a train circular quay to central and walk up to the ground..about 15 minutes..do a pub crawl on the way..an older varied part of sydney.Have one for me at the cricketers arms

On Sunday 25 August at Aussie Stadium, the Sydney Roosters (Easts) play New Zealand (rugby league). These are 2 of the better teams in the comp. Obviously there'll be very few kiwi fans, so the crowd will be not much over 10,000. Just pay at the ground. The game kicks off at 2:30pm, but there'll be a lower grade curtain-raiser. You can get a bus from The Rocks (abt 20 mins on the 339). Or its a fairly short taxi ride. Its also an interesting walk.

Thanks for the info! I would have thought that rugby was a bit more popular though!

There are two main football codes in Sydney. Rugby League (usually called just "league" or "footy" and Rugby Union (usually just "rugby"). All the big rugby union games are over for the year. There were 80,000 last week to see Australia play New Zealand. League crowds pick up for interstate matches or finals, but most regular season games average around 10,000 to 20,000. Its often said that regular season football crowds are lower in Sydney because there is so much else to do. It doesn't help that every game is live on TV, either.
