RalphR, it appears that only you & I, really understands, what author of my book is on about. He is talking about the GBR being unique, and that Heron Island, has a special place in his book because of its position, "right on the GBR", not a continental island like Hinchinbrook, Hayman, or Lizard, etc
Thats why I said to others, please read the book, to understand what author is on about, then comment.
AndrewDavid, yes, your right about people in southern states, making huge profits on the sale of their house, then heading north to purchase real estate, usually two properties (in most cases)
I'm glad you liked the 3 mentioned places on your last trip. IF you ever wanted to visit, some unusual off the beaten track places, not so touristy, on your next trip, let me know when the time comes around, and I will email you personally, with some good suggestions.
Take care, Tropo.

Sorry trop, but spent most of my life in Sydney's northern beaches - Scotland Island could never be considered "touristy". Whatever that means. Most Australians wouldn't have a clue where it is. Just a water taxi ride away from the famous Newport Arms.

Pat, no worries, when I lived in Sydney, I visited Scotland Island on 2 occasions, and enjoyed each visit.

Actually Tropo, My 3 choices were a coded thank you to one of our Fodors correspondents who hosted us at those 3 locations and was a large part of making our time down under extraordinary.

We were in Australia for 5 weeks and found everyplace we went pretty wonderful and the people we met along the way extremely kind and interesting as you can glean from my trip reports

A/D

AndrewDavid - I'm glad you visited some unusual place whilst in Australia, it makes the trip just that little bit more interesting, wouldn't you say.
Last time I was Britain, I drove to Scotland to visit some relatives in Glasgow, then out to the Isle of Bute, for a few days to see more relatives. I had never visited the isle of Bute before, and our host relative was kind enough to drive us all over the island, and then onto vehicular ferries make on the mainland, then across to another island, then back to Bute. It really was "something different". After the drive, we sat down to a great home cooked meal, a few beers, a few whiskies, all in all, a good time.

A little bit of research on the internet and came up with 109 rooms.
