Port of Douglas - too ambitious?

I'd like to take a reef tour/dive AND go to Daintree/Cape Tribulation. If I allot one entire day to the rainforest, do you think i'd be able to take the reef tour/dive beginning early morning and be back in time to take a 6:30pm flight out of Cairns if I'm staying in Port Douglas? Please advise.

Thanks!

Hi Gottabee,

Most of the tours offered for both areas are pretty much full day tours, with pick ups in the morning and then a drop off in late afternoon; further you need to allow time to check-in for your flight, so you'd need to be back at the airport at 5:30, checking in at the terminal.

Hopefully, you can be a bit flexible and add a day to your itinerary!

Please note that if you plan to dive, you should wait an absolute MINIMUM of 12 hours before flying for safety reasons (to reduce the chance of decompression sickness). Many diving organizations recommend that you wait at least 24 hours before flying.

That's a wise choice. We're planning a trip to Port next year and are having trouble because we can't stay more than 10 days - add as many as you possibly can!

But if all else fails and you're limited, switch your scuba diving to day one and allow your body to recover on day two while you're touring elsewhere.

Have a good time...
