Paddington Bed/Breakfast??
In my endeavor to find a place to stay, I stumbled across The Waverly bed and breakfast in Paddington. It's website says it is 2.5 miles from the Brisbane CBD. What is the CBD? Central Business District? The specific address is 5 Latrobe Terrace. Does that mean my husband would be reasonably close to the Convention Centre in Brisbane, and that I would be able to enjoy the shops and restaurants in Paddington, as well as Brisbane with out too much fuss? We were previously planning to stay out on Broadbeach and drive in each day... but do to advice on this board, decided to come back into town and try to stay in a small, cozy place to meet some friendly Aussies and pick up the local color. Any advice appreciated!

Lynette

i do not live in Brissy (thank god) but i will make some points...

Paddington is also a very well known suburb of sydney. Both paddo's are inner city, gentrifying suburbs.

I think the brissy convention centre is at southbank on the south side of the river..probably have to do a double change to get there from paddo.
You may be better to get a place by the river and catch the river cat to the conference.River cat is a great way for visitors to get around brissy.

La Trobe is the main street of paddo..may be busy.If it is an old queenslander house they can get surprisingly cool in winter.

Hi John,
Thanks for your expert advice! Especially about the "old Queenslander" homes being quite chilly in the winter. I'm so excited about this trip! I get the idea that Brisbane isn't too exciting, but we'll plan plenty of day trips and make it fun. After that, we're off for a week to Port Douglas/Cairns to explore around up there. (Staying in a timeshare part of the time and a few nights at the Thala Beach Lodge.) I have my next trip to Australia planned as well! What a wonderful country!
Lynette,

We used to live in Auchenflower which is an adjoining suburb to Paddington. Where you are planning to stay is a fantastic location. Buses will go straight across the river to the convention centre, which as John pointed out, is on the south side of the river. We were in Melbourne before Brisbane and the fact that houses up there are cool in the winter was a godsend from out perspective. There is nothing worse that being too hot at night, and you are every chance of experiencing that in Brisbane.

You will find plenty to do in Brisbane and Paddington, the CBD and surrounding suburbs have some great restaurants.

Enjoy.

David
