That question is impossible to answer.
The two countries are completely different so it kind of depends on what you like the most.
Australia ~ big cities, beaches, Great Barrier Reef,The Outback, Kangaroos and bronzed surfers,( they really are bronze)
New Zealand ~ smaller cities, snow capped mountains, golden beaches, mind blowing scenery, laid back people, great place to come and get some R&R
As Christa has pointed out both have lots to offer. I visited Australia briefly (Cairns & Sydney) on the way to New Zealand last year. Given a choice I'd pick New Zealand for the fact that it has such an amount of diverse scenery in such a compact space (when compared to the size of Australia).

www.vistaphotos.com

Went to both last year in Feb. It rained or was cloudy and gray almost every day in NZ. Maybe it was an odd year, but something to keep in mind. The weather in Australia was clear and hot. I`m sure you will have fun in either place.

As an Australian living in Auckland NZ I would have to agree with the others. It depends on what you want from the visit. NZ offers diversity within relatively short distances, so you are able to experience more if time is an issue and for most it usually is.

When collecting people from the airport here in Auckland they have usually commented on two or three occasions before we get home on how green it is. By the end of their stay they have usually experienced why. Yes Pat, Auckland especially is wet but the weather blows across quickly. Christa, I have not found those golden beaches yet but would love to...where are they?

Cheers
David

Hi David,
For those golden beaches, head to the east coast and Gisborne!
Make sure it's Jan, Feb, March though other wise you will freeze.
It doesn't rain there as much as Auckland either, unless you hit a bad summer~

Cheers Christa....we plan to visit the East Coast early next year so that should fit perfectly with your recommended times. Thanks.
