North Island NZ ~ base for visting Coromandel Peninsula
Thinking of staying around the Coromandel Peninsula mid November for 5 nights or so. Looking for an area for a base with great scenery, preferably a small/mid-size town or village with nice restaurants.

We have visited the Coromandel a couple of times each time for a couple of weeks on but in a Camper van rather than hotels. One of the issues there is that the roads are narrow and it does take a long time to get anywhere. Whitianga would bet the largest town with the most facilities, restaurants etc. and is reasonably well located for getting around. We also really liked Coramandel Town, not so well served fwith facilities but good enough for a few days. Well located for driving up to the far north to Port Jackson some great scenery along the coast. We went in winter and were the only ones there.
One place/person I would make an effort to visit is Stu and his wild pigs midway between Whitianga and Coromandel Town - https://accidentalnomads.com/2016/05...ith-wild-pigs/
