Lodging suggestions - Apollo Bay and Port Campbell GOR
We're planning a March/April trip to Tasmania and will include a short stop in Melbourne to drive the GOR. At this point, we're considering one night at Apollo Bay and one night at Port Campbell. Looking for moderately priced lodging options - any and all suggestions appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi, you are in for quite a wonderful experience! Though my heart now belongs to Tasmania, we loved the GOR. We were there in Feb '05.
In Apollo Bay, my husband and I stayed at the Rayville Boat Houses, which was exceedingly clean, very unique and very well outfitted. ($154 in a loft villa - way more room than we needed, but...
The hostess was a hoot. The location was on the outskirts of the village. We walked to dinner in the village (10 minutes) and walked out on the jetty in the Bay (saw fairy penguins!). Loved it.
We spent 8 days in Melbourne, incl our 2-day, 1-night trip on the GOR. 10 days on Tasmania was not enough! Don't forget to layer your clothes, as parts of Tasmania were quite cool in mid-Feb - it will likely be cooler when you are there. Any other questions, let me know. I took a year to plan our 2 month trip, and learned a lot.

Melnq8,
Another few you might have a look at are:
Points South at Wongara, just jear Appollo Bay. www.points-south.com.au
Chocolate Gannets, Appollo Bay (this is set just above the water line on a grassy rise. www.chocolategannets.com.au,
Captain
s at the Bay (Appollo Bay) www.captains.net.au
A Room with a View, Wongara . www.roomwithaview.com.au
I haven't stayed in any of these, but they read & rate well in the latest edition of "Beautiful B&Bs and Small Hotels", covering Victoria, SA & Tas.
At Port Campbell, there's also Heytesbury Ridge Vineyard Retreat which might be intersting.
