Hong Kong to Asutralia on a freighter

Hi there,

Is there anyone here who would know about ships sailing from Hong Kong to Australia in the second half of 1981?

I was told that most vessels used to go to Western Australia (especially Fremantle), but were there others going to other territories (Darwin, Brisbane and so on) ? and which ones or what kind of vessels then?

Waiting for your replies,

Cheers,

Michael

I haven't done that route but have a name for you of someone who may be able to help. Hamish arranged my freighter travel between Singapore & Malta & is a real expert.

You might find information in old guidebooks from that period (try secondhand bookstores). Lonely Planet would be the best but any that concentrate on that part of the world might help you.

I've tried that already but unfortunately they don't give the answers I'm looking for. I'll check anyways on other guidebooks if I can find any. But thanks for the advice...

The only other thing I can think of is to try the Darwin or Brisbane forums on Trip Advisor. I think there would be more people able to offer advice than on Fodors.

Have you tried Australian National Library (nla.gov.au)?
Their website has shipping and passenger records.
