And driving around Hawaii and exploring will be SO MUCH NICER than either Tahiti, Fiji or Bali, despite what people here are saying -- and you can drink the water care-free!!

Hawaii is an overdeveloped and overrated destination.

Crime is endemic and the water is very dubious.

Think thwice before visiting the white-trash capital of the Pacific.

X-Hawaiian -- After landing at the Honolulu Airport and looking around, you just might be correct in your assessment!!

"And you can drink the water care free"???? Someone isn't familiar with their areas in the SP. Let's not think about the Carribean instead of places in the Pacific. Hawaii can be very nice, its very American and very much a slice of America in the Pacific. It would be the place if you don't want to get away from it all, can still watch some American TV (even if a half day late), spend your American dollars, dial an American phone number, and drive an American car. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just a matter of what you're looking for.

But let's not write off the whole SP area as unsafe or unhealthy. It's just different.

Has anyone been to the Maldives and how do they compare to Tahiti? I wonder if that would be an exotic honeymoon destination.

I'm an expert...

For my first marriage we went to Hawaii (10/1993). For my second we went to Tahiti (1/2000). Tahiti is a winner hands down.

Dear a,
I believe the Maldives would certainly qualify as a beautiful, exotic honeymoon destination, however, it's incredibly expensive, takes a long time to get there, and you have to travel through Sir Lanka which is not advised at this time.

Don't listen to the Hawaii naysayers, especially X-Hawaiian. The Islands of Hawaii are very diverse and offers so options for honeymooners and visitors. The idiot calling it the white trash capital of the Pacific is probably still upset he couldn't persuade someone to move his trailer off the island so he could move to Louisiana. The Hawaiian islands are some of the most beautiful places in the world, especially Kauai. It seems like you can't go wrong picking any of the places you mentioned but Hawaii has so much to offer. You won't be dissapointed. The best part is that X-Hawaiian won't be there to ruin your time. He's still probably trying to float his double wide across the Panama Canal.

X-Hawaiian never lived in Hawaii, otherwise he would know that in hawaii only people of the Hawaiian race are referred to as "Hawaiian". You can no more be X-Hawaiian than you can be x-Black or x-Asian. On top of that, whites just 24% of the population in Hawaii...makes it kind of hard to be a white trash capitol if you're in the minority, doesn't it??
