Flight help NYC-Auk-Syd-NYC $1855

I'm going to the Int'l AIDS conf in Sydney and was looking at flights. Since my hospital is not paying, I'm looking for the most reasonable flight.

I got a quote of $1855 for the following:
Jul06 JFK-LAX-AUK, a little vacation in New Zealand
Jul15 AUK-SYD
Jul 26 SYD-LAX-NYC
American and Quantus each gave same quote

Anybody have any suggestions? Consolidators? Sales coming up?

Any help appreciated? Thanks.

Hi Tim

Not sure if there are any sales on, but be sure to check Air Tahiti Nui. I flew NY-SYD; AUK-NY for under $1000 in Nov/Dec.

You also might want to see if splitting the trip into two different tickets is cheaper - a ticket for the NY/LAX roundtrip and a ticket for LAX/AKL/SYD/LAX journey.

Or split up the tickets further. We flew JetStar (a budget airline) from Sydney to Christchurch.

Just make sure to match your lugguge weight to the most strict airline requirements.

We flew Air Tahiti Nui too. It was very nice.

Hi again,

Anyone seen any sales on flights to Australia recently?

My plans have changed to:
July 15 NYC to Sydney
July 25 Sydney to Auckland
July 29 Auckland to NYC

Any help would be appreciated?

Thanks.

I just checked kayak for your dates http://www.kayak.com/ The best price I got was 1787, but if your dates are flexible, you could play around with that.

thanks, I ended up getting the flights on American for 1814 including taxes. A few dollars more than the cheapest, but the freq flyer miles are with an airline I use frequently.

Good travels to everyone.
