Fiji - Question About Current Safety & Security

We have non-Fodorite friends planning a trip to Fiji (Viti Levu, Coral Coast) this winter. After reading statements on the American and Australian state department web sites about unrest, crime, and political instability in Fiji over the last couple of years, they are reconsidering. In reviewing recent Fodorites' posts about Fiji, I don't note too much discussion or concern about current safety and security considerations there.

Thanking in advance for input from those in the forum who are knowledgeable and could advise about the current situation in Fiji.

No one seems to be posting up but review here political info

Fiji is a South Pacific island nation with over 350 islands and islets, approximately 100 of which are inhabited. The capital ...

Odds are overwhelming in nice tourist enclaves they will

Fiji's a great spot for tourists and your friends will be fine. Friends just came back from 3 weeks on the Coral Coast and had I the time, I'd be on the next flight out.

I also have two lots of friends living on Viti Levu; one expatriate Australian and the others have been there for generations & they're not having any problems.

As anywhere else; keeping your wits about you and your observations & opinions about your host country's politics to yourself is good advice.

I was on the Coral Coast this past February for several days. I never felt unsafe or saw any crime. It was beautiful, but humid!!

I was in Nadi in July and back there tomorrow.
Unfortunately for work and not a holiday.
Never had a problem with security or any hint of political unrest.
Lots of "Bula" smiles in Fiji
