It is a fairly typical 4+ star hotel. Rooms are average size and it has the facilities you would expect to find in a hotel of this level. The evening meal in the restaurant in the lobby was, when we ate there, very good and reasonably priced. The breakfast too was good value for money.
The Duxton is about a 5 minute walk to the city centre and the shopping precinct.
I'd suggest you consider paying the extra A$10 or A$20.00 and go for a room with a view over the Swan River. However, having said that because the hotel is a converted office building (used to be the Tax Dept HQ!!) the windows aren't overly large and do limit the view marginally.
On the negative side there are not a lot of good restaurants in the immediate vicinity.
This hotel typically offers deals for weekend packages which are well priced.

No the Sheraton is actually further east along Adelaide Terrace so it is a longer walk into the city centre and across to Northbridge (the main restaurant area located north of the city centre)
However, a taxi from either hotel would be relatively inexpensive.
If I can offer my own opinion (I have stayed at both) I would opt for the Duxton as some of the rooms in the Sheraton can be very small and a little "tired".

The Esplanade is a nice hotel and the suites on the top floor have a pleasant outlook across the park opposite to the wharf and yacht club areas and the ocean behind. The meal used to be very good but I must confess I haven't eaten there for some time now.
Fremantle itself is a nice spot with plenty to do for visitors and a great range of restaurants, clubs and pubs. There have been some problems caused late in the evening particularly on weekends when the clubs are emptying but presumably most tourists are well tucked up by that hour!!
Again, if I can offer a personal view, if I had to choose one from the other I would stay in Fremantle.
