Dunk or Daydream

Hi All
I have already done a search on this and read everyone's opinions but some were quiet dated. I am after personal experiences, between Dunk island and Daydream Island. Planning on going with my hubby and 2 children (aged 3 and 4 years). I have been to Dunk Island before, my hubby absolutely adored it and wants to return there, but I am keen on Daydream BUT alas, I have not been there so don't know if its worth it or not (costs alot of $). Has anybody been to Daydream since the renovations? somebody told me the childcare isnt very good now and the island is very small (we'd be looking at staying for minimum 7 days, up to 9 days)

Any experiences (good or bad) would be gratefully appreciated

Cheers
Sorry have not stayed on either, but Daydream is very small and has been completely renovated, the resort takes up about the whole island. Good thing would be you can easily daytrip to other islands, like South Molle or Hamilton or Airlie Beach on the mainland. Check Fantasea website for daily sailings (often and cheap). Hamilton Island is very popular with families, you could have 3 or 4 days on Daydream and then transfer by ferry to Hamilton.
Kay

Thank you all. Each island has advantages - and I just cannot decide! harumph. Of course, if anybody can suggest another island good for families I'm all ears.

Chris, I found Dunk was beautiful - but the water/beach isn't too crash hot. We stayed in a Garden Cabana, and we had friends who stayed in the Banfield Unit (family) and to tell you the truth, the only difference was the Cabana's have only 1 adjoining wall with another unit whereas the Banfields are like units on top and next to each other. Inside was the same, and quiet frankly no real big difference. The other option I would consider if I wasn't going with children (not sure if you are or not) is the Beachfront or Bayview units. We weren't sure if it was going to be windy, but it isn't and very calm. There is a fair bit to do (complimentary ,Tennis (indoor & outdoor
Squash; Gym equipment & fitness classes
Beach & pool volleyball;Snorkelling lessons; Coonanglebah - the island farm (not that great); Catamarans, paddle skis & sailboards; Archery;Aqua Aerobics
Badminton; Jogging track; Children's playground (old); Some nature and history walks; Bocce. Things like Golf, fishing charters, sailing trips etc you pay (and pay quiet alot). I did not get a chance to go to the Spa there, but if I return I will. We went in January - and although apparently its the wet season it only rained once (and briefly at night) during our whole time there. It was very humid though. There wasn't any real nighttime entertainment - a 3 man band type of thing every night in the bar - that was it. So very low key. The food was nice (I've been to Club Med Lindeman too, the food was sensational there). Check out www.poresorts.com.au. One down side for me was the travelling, took us literally a whole day to get there - which is amazing when you think its the same country!

Cheers
Chris, you could check out South Molle Island which is a hop, skip and a jump from Daydream. We stayed there 2 years ago, (check out my trip report on Fodors from July 2001, search under Whitsundays). It's got a variety of rooms at different prices, we stayed in a 2 storey place overlooking the beach which was nice, not plush though. We got a standby rate when we arrived in Airlie Beach and saved heaps. There is free tennis, a 9 hole golf course, pool, they feed the birds daily, there are some good walks/hikes, also you can hire catamarans, jetskis etc. Only one place to eat at night, the other places were closed, it was a buffet each night which suited us. There was a kids club but I didn't take much notice - too busy drinking cocktails
Kay

Chris thanks for the information. We have no kids. We were planning to stay in the Beachfront units. I thought that the golf was free.

We stayed on South Molle in 1999. It was good and bad. Cost, activities, buffet, people all good. The resort was in a bad need of a rehab, beds were very uncomfortable. They had several groups of kids (i.e. 20 or 30 kids and few parents). The tide gets very low their so water activities are only good in the morning.
