Dunk Island or Hayman?
We are planning to take our four kids (age range 9 to 15) to one of the islands in August. I'm considering both Dunk and Hayman, wondering which would be better for a family vacation. We plan to stay about five nights. Hayman sounds more luxurious (better food?) but maybe Dunk would be more fun with more activities.

miranda,
we did not go to Hayman but we did go to Dunk and loved it. My son went skydiving which was a very low point in my parental guidance but from his stand point it truely was the high point of his trip. We were there 3 days and we needed 5, 7 if money is ok. Also, we did this on our last leg of our trip b4 going back to Sydney for New Years and a 3 day rest b4 flying back to the states.

miranda,
Oh yea, Dunk is absolutely kid friendly, they will meet many kids, amybe some Aussies if they are having winter break during August. Mine did, and they really learned alot from each other. The Aussies are absolutely the best people I have in the world. Would love to and will go back after we become "empty nesters".
ps If your oldest does skydive go to 12k high and pay the extra for the video of him/her coming down.
Gosh, talking to makes me want to go back this year.

Dunk was fine for adults. We were there to rest after being in the outback, cains and perth for a couple of weeks. I fished, golfed(6 holes), and rested. Wife rested(sun soaker) and son hooked up with buds. The price is what hooked us. We were able to spend more time in OZ by picking Dunk to stay at to complete our trip.

chris,
as a 100+ golfer all I can tell you is "its the only 6 holes on the island" therefore it was great
. 5 days was plenty. My wife and son loved the jet skis around the island. They took the island tour while i went out on a fishing trip. They plan nightly activites etc. VERY family friendly or you can just go hang out on the beach by yourself etc.
Now with that said when I go back with wife only I will go to another one of the upscale resorts.
The bayviews were fine. Worth the money i guess. About like a courtyard marriott type room.
Sorry for the typos.
J

J

Thanks for the information. My wife and I just want to have some fun with the golf. So it should work fine.

For another upscale Island you may want to look at Orpheus. We stayed their in 2001.

We did the six night package which included a seaplane flight to the island, upgrades to the villas (real nice), and all meals. Drinks were extra but fairly priced. Plus we brought four bottles of wine with us.

We booked through the Travel Mall which if you book 7 or more days through them they give you 10% off. The best deal I could find for Orpheus.

Chris
