Darling Point Hotel? Sydney.

Christa -
The Darling Point Hotel is a small hotel just off a busy main road, in Sydneys' eastern suburbs, not far past Kings Cross. It would be close to the bus route to the city but a 5 - 10 minute walk up a fairly steep hill to the railway.
Rushcutter's Bay which has a large marina housing many large yachts is between Kings Cross and the hotel - and if the hotel has views of this area they would be spectacular.
I have not seen the interior of the hotel for a number of years so cannot comment on room size etc.

Hi, Christa!

The hotel itself may be quite nice -- haven't seen it so can't comment -- but the location would not be one I would choose for a holiday in Sydney. It's just too far away from everything, and you would be looking at a bus ride (or taxi) every time you stepped out the door. Trying to walk to Sydney, you'd be confronted by hills, plus you'd have to go though Kings Cross, which might be an interesting experience one time only, but not something you'd want to be locked into.
There are so many better-located hotels -- in the Rocks, in the CBD, between Kings Cross and the city -- that the only possible reason for staying this far out would be price.... if you are getting a discount that makes up for the daily bus fares (not to mention the time you will spend sitting on the bus twice a day) then by all means go for it. Otherwise, my advice is.... look for an alternative.

hi Prue and Alan,
Thanks for the input.

Yeah, it is price that has caught my attention ~ flight and 2 nights accom for 489 (NZ) ~ sounds cheap aye!
The other hotels on offer at graduating prices are the CREST HOTEL in Kings Cross, HOTEL UNILODGE SYDNEY in Broadway and PENTURA on PITT
How do they sound?

Although location dosent really matter overly much as with only 2 days in town we will be out all day exploring and only using the hotel at night.

Hi, again, Christa!

Well, with a price like that, what can I say? You'll be laughing all the way to the bus stop! I withdraw my reservations.... except to say if you're only talking a few dollars here, the Pentura on Pitt is very close to Town Hall Station and the entertainment areas of Sydney, so location-wise it has a lot going for it. Pitt St, however -- certainly the area around no. 300 -- has seen better days, and is recommended only for its proximity to everything you want to see; if we're talking more than about $20 a night extra, I think I'd stick with the Darling Point hotel! (Certainly I would doubt whether it would be worth paying even a dollar extra for the other two possibilities.) You understand, of course, that I know nothing about any of the buildings themselves... all I am talking about is the location.

Christa -
With a price like that I certainly don't think you should go past the Hotel - as I said the bus stop is very close and the service to the city is frequent - so you will have no trouble coming and going.
As I said I have not seen inside for a number of years, but I had an American Aunt who was extremely particular and she always chose to stay there!! So hopefully it will still be at least ok.

Hi again, Christa!

I have been reading this site for a week now, waiting for someone to say "Where did you get that fare?", but, so far, nobody has expressed any interest, so maybe in New Zealand it's around everywhere. But here in Sydney we are paying more for the reverse, so maybe we should know about the companies you are dealing with so that we can see what's available from their agents at this end. So, would you care to share your "find" with everyone... where did you get that fare?
