Chinese New Year in Sydney - best eats?

We're spending our last night in Australia in Sydney, and wanted to find out your recommendations for somewhere great to eat in China Town - we'll be there during Chinese New Year celebrations.

I guess we'd be best to book so wanted to find out your opinions before we get there, so we can do the 'reservation thang'.

Thank you thank you!

Hi

There are going to be Chinese markets in Belmore Park, just near Central Railway Station.

I found a heap of info but I'm not sure what the copyright is for websites so I should not cut&paste. Try looking up a website for a range of diverse info,

www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au

Scroll down and click on "Sydney Chinese New Year".

Half way down the next page you'll see a listing of "Event Highlights", including the Markets, Hawker Central at Belmore Park. Click on whichever of these takes for fancy.

Golden Century in Chinatown is the pick but there are many others. I should warn you though that any person with any claim to being Chinese plus many more will throng every Chinese restaurant available. My Chinese friend goes out every Chinese New Year to celebrate at a restaurant but NEVER a Chinese restaurant especially in Chinatown! LOL! Not trying to discourage you ...just warning you re crowds and if you still want to give it a try, then make sure you book in advance. Golden Century is at 393 Sussex Street in Chinatown ( phone no. is 92123901. Have fun!

I think I read somewhere that Sydney has about 300,000 ethnically Chinese residents. That's a hell of a lot of celebrating.

Hmm, fair point. Will persuade the SO to go for our Chinese meal next week when we're first in Sydney!

Thanks for your great advice.
