Canberra to Sydney by Car
Usually when we drive between Sydney and Canberra, we are just rushing to get from A to B with no time for sightseeing.
This time, we will have time for a leisurely drive on the Canberra to Sydney leg (on a Monday).
Does anyone have any little interesting stopping points that are either on the way, or not too far off the beaten track?
Many thanks, Di

Hi, here are a few suggestions:
Collector - the Lynwood Cafe and the pub with the massive mirror behind the bar. (Not much else in the town!)
Berrima - cute little town (as is rest of Southern Highlands). Lots to see and do in the Highlands. Nearby is the Berkelouw book barn - second hand and rare books.
Picton - George IV pub is the oldest in Australia.

If you wanted to do other than the Federal/Hume Hwys. toute you could go coastal via Bungendore/Braidwood and down to the Princess Hwy.
You could then include a loop up through Kangaroo Valley to top of Fitzroy Falls and then over to Robinson, back down to Princess, up there a bit and then take ;arence Hargreaves coastal drive and up through the Royal National Park and back on to Princess.
Or, from Fitzroy Falls, head over Bowral/Berrima Way and take the road off through to Joadja and down to Wombeyan Caves before heading across towards Jenolan Caves and if doing that, make sure of the side trip up to Kanangra Walls.
Then you come down to Sydney from Katoomba.
That latter bit might sound a bit off the beaten track but if you want some scenic driving, you'll get it for sure.
You could do a variation and head through to Goulburn from Bungendore, nice enough drive but nothing really spectacular and then from Goulburn, take the road up through Taralga and onto Kanangra Walls/Jenolan Caves but you will miss the more spectacular bit which is the road from the Berrima area.
If you're into camping you'll come across a spot that is very idyllic, down where the road crosses the Wollondilly River.
