Cairns - snorkelling on GBR

Hi all,

We intend to take one of the snorkelling day trips to the GBR next week - would appreciate any advice on the best company / reef to use / visit. There are so many out there it's hard to know which one to book!!

Thanks!
Jasmine.

Hi Jasmine - just to narrow it down a bit do you want large groups or would you prefer something small. Motor or sailboat? Would you prefer to snorkel from a sand cay, a pontoon, or just off the side of the boat?

hi,
we just got back. We really enjoyed Ocean Spirit. It goes to Michalmas Cay and has a semi-submersible. Smaller operation than most so you are faced with hundreds of people...food and service was excellent.

Hi KSC - glad you enjoyed Ocean Spirit - its my favourite too. Jasmine, its easy snorkelling from a sand cay (part of Michaelmas Reef), a seabird sanctuary, and a terrific crew. If you're beyond walking distance from Marlin Jetty in Cairns, they'll pick you up at your accommodation at no extra charge (take you back, too).

Guys, thanks for the replies! We'd actually been looking at Ocean Spirit and Michealmas Cay on the web earlier this week and it was at the top of our list of choices - we like the idea of snorkelling off the sand cay. So it's nice to hear positive things about it. Looks like that will be the one we'll go for - hopefully it's not booked out!!
We're staying at the Tradewinds on the Espalande, so I think we're in walking distance of the jetty??

Jasmine.

Too easy, Jasmine - about a 10 minute walk at the most. Enjoy the trip.
