bora bora's le meridien?
Hi everybody. We are seriously considering a trip to Bora Bora and love the looks of Le Meridien. We've stayed at that hotel in California and enjoyed it. Our biggest question is that since the location--which is amazing-is somewhat removed from everything else there it seems, so will we be able to eat anywhere but the hotel? They only list one restaurant and one grill-type place, but I have been cautioned that these are quite pricey. Anybody out there have any info? Any help appreciated.

The Pearl Beach and the La meridian are both very nice. Getting to the main Island is not been a problem to eat. (Try)- Top Dive, Bloody Mary's, Dinner at the Hotel Bora Bora, also down from the The Sofitel Maria, go right and walk down a half of mile on the left and try the local rest. can't rember the name, but for 25.00 us this was the best meal. Either hotel will be great. WE stayed at the Sofitel Motu away from the main island and took the shuttle boat anytime that we wanted day or night, just ask if they will water taxi, most of the resorts do offer this service. Hope you have a great time.

Todd

Does anyone have more feedback on this hotel? My wife and I will be staying there for 8 nights in August. Are there specific over the water bungalows we should request? Does the hotel provide transportation to the main island (for restaurants, shopping etc.)? Thank you.

Hi Jason,I was at Le Meridien Bora Bora in March of 2001.It was beautiful.Service was great.Swimming off the over water was fun.Not too many fish.We had Overwater Bungalow #325.
It's at the end with a drop-dead view
of Mt Otemanu. You'll love the Le Meridien. The food, service, bungalows,
and the Lagoon are great!! Even the Beach Bungalows looked wonderful.I really loved being on a Motu.We took a private Water Taxi to the main town of Vaitape and the views (and the speed boat ride)were to die for!Really!I know you'll love Le Meridien as much as we did.Have a wonderful time.Debbie

Hi Jason,Yes,the Le Meridien does pick you up at the Airport. You'll find someone standing there as you enter the terminal. They check off your name and give you a couple of tags to put on your bags when they get unloaded in the terminal, then someone from Le Meridien
picks them up and brings them to the transfer boat. The boat ride to the Le Meridien was soooo nice. You get to see little Motu's along the way.And the water is super clear blue!! The water outside our bungalow was about 10 feet deep and we could still see the bottom!
I really can't remember exactly how much the boat ride was but I know it was about $85 per person. It was well worth it too!!I'd do it again in a second! The Activities desk at the Le Meridien can set that up for you.
Just writing about it makes me want to go back!!

Is there anywhere to walk to if the shuttle drops you at Anua ? I am staying at the Le Meridian, and am also wondering how to go elsewhere for dinner. We would love to take the boat trip to Vaitape, but probably would only do that once given the cost. I would love to go to some local places also.

Jeff,If your taking the shuttle to Anau
you need to either get a Rental Car or
make arrangements with a restaurant to pick you up. I beleive there are a couple of restaurants on that side of
Bora Bora that picks customers up in Anau. I only went to Vaitape so I don't know what's there.

My wife and I stayed at Le Meridian Bora Bora for our honeymoon late May/early June 2000.

Pluses:

- Coral under the huts attracts fish. They have a light that you can turn on at night to watch the fish. Very cool.
- Views of Ottumano (sp?), the high mountain on Bora Bora through the fog and mist
- Seeing the Southern Cross, as the nights are very clear for star-gazing.
- Book the catamaran snorkel tour that Le M. runs. You have access to good snorkeling just on the grounds of the resort but the tour takes you to some excellent reef sites.

Negatives
- Service is friendly but not focused. Maybe it was because we are NYers, but we thought that the follow-up was a little spotty. Before we left, I noticed that the porters had not loaded our bags on to the boat to go back to the Bora Bora airport. I had to run back to the main office of the hotel to fetch our bags. Our joke was that the service staff's friendly answer to our query (a smiley "No problem") could mean anything.
- Don't take the meal package at the hotel. Or if you do, take the lowest one they have. Brunch is not long by American standards and gets tiring after awhile. Meals are very expensive compared to restaurants on the island - if my wife and I go back we will brunch there everyday but eat dinner every night on the island, weather permitting. Bloody Mary's was good but so were some of the little, less-PR'd places. All are less than Le Meridian.

Overall, a very good experience and worth the long airplane trip. When you get there, you are glad it takes so much work to get there, as otherwise many more people would be crowding Bora Bora. Enjoy.
