Bed Bugs ALERT - do NOT stay in Waldorf Apts in Eastwood

If I owned a hotel, B&B, rental apartment, or whatever--and one of my guests found bedbugs in their room, I'd be mortified and go out of my way to eliminate the critters and make the guests comfortable, with a huge apology--that's simple courtesy and good business practice. It doesn't matter how the bugs got there or which group of tourists brought them in.
I was reading in a travel mag recently that bedbugs are a worldwide problem now, so I don't see the point of vilifying Americans or Europeans for supposedly bringing them into pristine Australia. I grew up there in the Riverina and spent my childhood dodging redbacks and all manner of other nasty creepy crawlies, to say nothing of the occasional bout with pinworms, so Oz is by no means bug-free.
So I think gigglepots is rightly outraged by the owners' lack of professionalism. If they'd acted like they cared about their guests, she probably would never have warned us off the place. (By the way, I have cousins who live in Eastwood--I'll have to check out the bedbug situation there with them!) I'm reminded of the time when my kids got head lice, and the person whose kid supposedly gave it to them was terribly apologetic--not that I blamed her, the things were endemic in our town at that time--but at least she had the grace to express sympathy. If the owners of this Waldorf place had acted graciously, this whole thing might have turned out very differently.

I'm so happy I did not encounter any bed bugs while travelling around oz.. I was staying at hostels too so! For example, on my Whitsundays boat tour on the Solway Lass they sprayed our bags upon arrival with a bed bug spray and when we left they sprayed all the mattresses, wood box beds, etc.
I guess more people have to do like they did in order to prevent their hotel/boat/hostel being infested...
