Any Overwater Bungalows in the Caribbean? Looking for cheaper options than Bora Bora

I would love to stay in an OW bungalow, but can't afford Tahiti. Live in NY. I've only found OWB's in Maldives, Malaysia and other Asian destinations. They weren't any cheaper than Tahihi (I think Tahiti was cheaper, actually). Would really appreciate your help!

There are OW bungalows at resorts on the island of Vanuatu. These are very reasonable for us travelling from Australia - but maybe not for you?

Perhaps you may get better responses if you post this question on the Caribbean forum?

Good luck!

BTW, I do know of one place in Bahamas, but it's very expensive as well. I guess the airfare would be cheaper, but anytime you want the best location, private bunglow on any Caribbean island, you will pay dearly, just like any place in the world.

Can't think of the resort now, but I will research and post the name in a day or 2.

They are also found in the Maldives (at the "Maldives Hilton" - VERY price though), Panama (at the "Punta Caracol Resort&quot, the Philippines (at the "El Nido Lagen Island Resort&quot, and Independent (not American) Samoa (at the "Coconuts Beach Resort&quot and there's even a few "partially overwater" bungalows at the "Aitutaki Pearl Beach Resort" (now once again known as the "Aitutaki Lagoon Resort&quot in the Cooks.

You might want to look into the Panama location. Coconuts is also much more reasonably priced.

I didn't think there are any in the Carribean since you need a well protected lagoon for them. The hurricane season would destroy them every year.

The only thing I can think of that comes close in the Caribbean area is in the Bay islands - Roatan - at Coco View Resort. The have some rooms/bungalow type huts that are not over the water but right on the edge. However - this is primarily a dive resort, so if you are not into diving it won't do for you. The website is www.cocoviewresort.com.

P.S. - actually they do have over-the-water bungalows as well as the other accommodations. It's all on the website.

I was wrong about the resort in Bahamas. Compass Point does not have any overwater, just right next to water bungalows. Still it looks nice and has some great reviews and photos here:

Good luck with your search!
