Can anyone advise cheapest place to purchase 4 tickets for z train shanghai to beijing (for 13/7/07).
What is difference between the different numbered z trains ?.
Any idea of taxi fare from station to Crowne Plaza Hotel ,Beijing?
Many thanks

Fare is fixed. Only matter is whether you go buy it at the train station or you pay someone (travel agent or hotel concierge) to get it for you. I suggest the latter unless you're fluent in Chinese and knows the train station well.
There shouldn't be any difference between the various Z trains between Shanghai and Beijing. They just depart 6-7 minutes apart, that's all.

I tried to book mine 6 days in advance when I arrived in Beijing. The hotel told me that it was too early to book and that I had to wait until 3 days before the train trip. I had no problem booking through my hotel. Not sure if the time of year would change this...I was there in early April.

I think it is not difficult for you to buy the ticket 6 days in advance, just go to the railway station, you can easily get the ticket. you can check the train timetable through http://www.adventurechinatrip.com/chinatrain.asp.
