KL and Singapore are both cities in SE Asia where the tap water is supposed to be safe to drink. However, like LA, I drink bottled water even at home. Commercially made ice (cylndrical, with a hole in it) is safe in Bangkok and KL. That's the official word, but do what makes you most comfortable.

i lived in penang and kl during the sixties. we never had bottled water. no such thing. used the water that everyone else used. never got ill.
funny, just returned from las vegas where i was laid up for nearly two days. maybe it was the pizza, or the water. i finally got to use the imodium that i bought a couple of years ago for my trip to bangkok. got well enough on the last day to place a future bet on the colts beating the giants by more than 3.5 pts in ny. bro vs bro. what do you think mrw?

Hi
I went to KL in March and I think that I drank water straight from the tap and it wasn't a problem. But most of the time when we were out walking we just bought bottled water. I also had ice in my drinks without any problem.

we didn't much worry about it but watching a block of ice being dragged into a the back door of a KL bar (large, "clean", westernised place)...involved much contact with the outside pavement and the floor in front of the gents' room was not very appetising. someone in my party had a mixed drink and, sure enough...chipped ice from a block.
again, i wouldn't worry about it as this stuff happens all the time with food, etc but it's just when you see it...not very nice.
