Visiting SIN Jan 03-- Help!

I'm planning a short (2 day) visit to Singapore in Jan. Any advise would be appreciated, especially concering transport to/from the airport, hotels at/close to airport (6:15 am departure), and any restaurants, sights I wouldn't want to miss.
(PS-I'm a woman travelling solo). Also, if I extended my visits are there any noteable day trips I should consider??

Singapore ranks as close to 'the' most civil place on earth. There is an Express train serice to/from the airport, with a 06.15 departure time it will probably be too early. Taxis and Limos availabale 24/7. Singapore is one of the safest places in thw world. Reataurants at Clarke Quay are especially enjoyable. Singapore presents itself as so tame you might considor it boring, but it has excellent restaurants and 'ok' nightlife, ever present is cleanliness, organisation, efficiency. Don't worry for a moment, you will love it.

Hi mauld,
transport from airport is easy, you can take taxi, bus, MRT.
You need not stay near the airport for it will be inconvenient for you to explorethe city. you can always pre-arrange a taxi to send you to the airport at anytime and the taxi will be on the dot punture.
things to do: zoo, night safari, bird park, sentosa--but only for underwater world, musical fountain and heritage museum, china town, clark quay, boat quay, shopping---orchard road, suntech, marina.... and most important: food----chicken rice, satay, fried kway teow, prawn noodle, BBQ sea food..........................there are a few famous hawker centres with good food and cheap price, ask the locals.

Hi Mauld

I'm a local. YOu may want to consider popping over to Malacca, Penang or Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia or if you like beaches, check out Langkawai and Bintan (especially Banyan Tree).

For food places, Clarke Quay restaurants are nice but to get a better flavour of local cuisine, suggest you go to the food street at smith street where there are tonnes of local food for you to sample. Another nice place for fine dining is Fullerton Hotel or the restaurants along One Fullerton.

Hope this helps!!

KL is a short flight away. You would need more than a day or two to enjoy it well, though!

Agreed that Singapore is very safe and easy to get around. I am also a woman who travels very frequently, many times by myself, and South East Asia has never disappointed; just returned from Thailand and Cambodia and could not have felt safer.

If you only have two days, spend them in SIngapore. The other places mentioned deserve a few days of their own. SIngapore has lots to offer. I always enjoy the orchid garden (located at the botanical garden) and the Asian Civilization museum. There is more than enough to keep you busy for a few days.

Hi Mauld

KL is about 45 mins by flight but the city is approximately 1 hour from the airport. You can take the bus up which takes about 4 hours. I am suggesting places such as KL, Penang etc. only if you are extending your stay. You can probably do it up and back in one day but that is not going to leave you a lot of time. All the other places are at least 2-3 day affairs. Of course, if you have only two days, then I would say don't bother. It's just too hectic.
