Vientiane Private Tour Guide suggestions?
A 60 year old active couple would like a private tour guide for two days in Vientiane, Laos - January 2017.
Do you have any suggestions for an English speaking driver/guide?

Hello, @KWP! My friend has been in Laos last August. They got a private tour guide, Mana, which they met in Hanuman website. They had a very good experience with him.

As we have said on your many other posts requesting private tour guides, none of these cities require a guide. I'd suggest you go - see if there is something you want to do/see where you would like a guide and go from there. Having a guide with you all the time insulates you from the experience of being in a new place, IMO. If you get there and feel you need a guide for something, ask your hotel to arrange it.

I walked around Vientiane myself, but admittedly, the sites are quite spread out, so I spent quite a bit of time getting from one place to another. I did hire a tuk tuk driver to take me from my last stop back to the hotel, and it cost about a dollar.
However, I met a couple of ladies who hired a tuk tuk driver for the day for $25. They said he was super nice, and did not rush them around. They just found him on the street. I probably should have done that, but I like walking, and I don't like having someone under foot unless I am travelling great distances.
I took a bus to the Buddha Park, which I found only moderately interesting. Be sure and visit the land mine museum, and the street where the foreign embassies are located.
I do agree with Kathie that one of the great pleasures of travelling in SEA in walking around and seeing friendly laid back people. If you have a driver and jump into a car, then you will miss all that.
