I may be wrong, but I was told the resort was outside of Can Tho.
We just stayed at the Golf resort (no, no golf course in sight!)in Can Tho for the second year in a row.
I highly recommend it. It is right on the river, has lots of interesting stuff in the neighborhood, and the rooms are great (6 nozzles in the shower!)
Rooms range from about US$75 to $150 for the suite. Get a river view and ask for discounts.

Here's an excerpt from my trip report: The Victoria in Can Tho made a welcome change from Chau Doc. What I loved most was their mascot. A 2 year old water buffalo! They had a sign posted with her birthaday, and schedule. I would have loved to have been around for some of her activities. Can Tho is pretty industrial, lots of big factories moving in. We visited Cai Rang floating market, a sort of wholesalers’ vegetable market, and we visited a rice paper making factory.
While enjoyable, I found that one night was enough. The neighborhood is not very conducive to walking around. I wasn't really paying attention, but saw nothing of interest in the immediate vicinity.

I'm not sure how to compare & contrast the "new & comfortable vs. above average business hotel." However, the Golf Resort was probably the nicest hotel I stayed in on this last Vietnam trip. The rooms are large-ish, clean, comfortable and come with robes & slippers. I tried all the shower settings, including the 6 nozzles! I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow, it was that nice.
What I really appreciated, though, was the service. The staff is very fluent and exceptionally helpful. AND, when I went to get breakfast in the morning, I found that I had forgotten my ticket. I started to turn around to go back up to get the ticket, when they said, "Room 712, right? Don't worry about it....go right in." Geez! Now, THAT's service!
Also there are two computers in a room near the lobby with free internet access, 24/7. When the front desk saw us in there for a while, they ran in with a fan to keep the air circulating.
It must be a popular business hotel, though. A division of Nestle was having an event/conference there when we were there.
