ls; that is good that you will be visiting the culturally important sites in bkk, and partake of the fabulous shopping.

as far as sukhumvit being a sleazy area, thats the first time i've seen it described so. but alot of good restaurnats and shops are located in this sleazy area, and a few of the posters have also stayed in this sleazy area, unkowningly.

LoneStar,
we stayed in Marriott (rhkkmk will not be happy that we are undermining Marriott's standards), however, they do not check who is coming in or not. I think you can smuggle a lady there.
I als saw many western men/thai women but not sure of the relationship. I am not an expert on this!
So you might want to spend one or two nights in Marriott, it is very nice and then go to your posh butler Oriental. No butlers in Mariott at least on our floor!
Also, really, why do not you rent for one night something reasonably and not sleazy where they do not mind you bringing overnight guest.

Sophia - thanks. Is that Marriott in Sukhumvit?

Thanks so much for your advice; you've all been wonderful.

P.S. I just heard from a friend who thought it was 'kinda sleazy' - it is not my opinion.

P.S.P.S. I was talking about Sukhumvit.

Marriott might very well be a better option. I am calling my travel agent. I think I am ditching Oriental.

LoneStar. Go and stay at the Pan Pacific Hotel. A very nice hotel 5 star. Just around the corner from Patpong on Rama 4 RD. You will have no problem there, as long as you register the young lady at the desk when you come in. Watch out for the lady boys. Some are pretty hard to figure out unlesh you look first.
Casey.

ls; glad to see that it was not your opinion that sukhumvit was sleazy. so i guess you have an open mind about sukhumvit. if so, rec. the grand president(serviced apt) on soi 11 sukhumvit. its a nice place, just down from the bed supper club, and close to the nana skytrain station. i know that lady guests are allowed to stay overnight at the gp. you might want to ck it out on the web.

LoneStar,
no it is Marriott Resort and Spa on the river.
http://marriott.com/property/propert...rshaCode=BKKTH
It has great Thai feel and architecture, very tropical setting. Great Pool. Look for yourself. Great location on the river.
I am a travel agent and beleive me, I agonized a lot on choosing hotel. Professional hazard! We were not dissapointed. It is not sleazy!

i have often seen westerners and thai ladies at the jw marriott, soi 2, sukhumvit rd....it is a 4-5 star place....i also think the shangri-la is more permissive...

i have seen a charge on rate sheets for extra over-nite guests...in bkk, but can't remember where...

maybe some place like a serviced apartment would suite you better...the marriott mayfair near the sukhumvit area is one very nice one...

many thai ladies plan to spend your whole vacation with you...beware...

the nana is on soi 4, sukhumvit rd....it is worth just a walk around in the lobby to observe...that whole soi area is full of bar ladies...

WATCH OUT FOR THEFT....USE YOU SAFE (S)....

also take some time and read up on disease in thailand....aids is a real and present problem along with lots of other exotic catches....don't berlieve anything that a thai woman tells you about her health....

you can still have a ball and be safe during your vacation....you don't want the kind of vacation that keeps on giving, however....

sorry for the frank talk...

i would ditch the oriental and choose another place...their security even at the door is unbelievable...seems unnecessary really

A big thank you to all for your responses - they have been extremely useful. In fact, I really wasn't expecting so much feedback.

Thanks for the list of hotels and websites - everything will be checked out.
