Typical Thai Dance in Bangkok or Chiang Mai

We are intersted in going to see a typical Thai dance show....possibly at a restaurant. Please advise of names of restaurants where we might be able to see this in Bangkok or Chiang Mai.

Sala Rim Nam, owned by the Oriental and across the river from the hotel is the most famous venue in Bangkok. There are a number of places in CM that do a "kantoke" dinner that includes dancing. I have to say all the reviews I've read here of those have not been laudatory. Maybe someone knows of a specific restaurant that has good food and a nice dance show.

The Chiang Mai Cultural Centre is touristy and, while not high-class entertainment, makes for a fun evening - including dinner (not bad) and a traditional Thai dance show. Don't miss the folk dancing in the small pavilion afterwards.

I've seen several. They're OK, but not enthralling. As BillT would say, consider seeing a Ladyboy show in BKK. The Calypso Cabaret at the Asia Hotel is quite amusing.

We went to Sala Rim Naam in Bangkk (The Oriental) and the food was very good, on the whole i would recommend it although maybe the dancing went on for just a bit too long.... but if you really do want to se one (and it is entertaining) then i would recomend this one.

But... it's perfect. They'll get the best fashion and makeup tips there.

We enjoyed the dinner/dance show at Kanthok Palace (or something like that) in Chiang Mai. I can't find my journal to give you more details, but it was a lovely evening.

They will love it. There is absolutely nothing lewd or lascivious about the show. It is clean wholesome fun, just performed by men dressed as women. Need I remind you that Shakespeares plays were also originally performed with men in the female roles.

We took my son and his wife. They loved it. I'll bet your daughters would have much more fun at a ladyboy show than a traditional Thai dance show. Not even close.

Agree if you have to pick one or the other, go for the lady-boy show! It's a hoot. We did both and enjoyed both. My daughter, then 24, thought it was a hoot.
