train kyoto to tokyo airport

How long does it take to get from Kyoto to the airport in Tokyo?

I have a 10am departure from Tokyo, will I need to go to Tokyo the day before?

If so, can anyone reccommend an inexpensive place to stay with easy access to the airport?

Thanks,
Mary

To be at Narita before 8:00 AM I think you'll have to go the night before. To arrive that early the best I've found on hyperdia.com is overnight, taking over 8 hours and at least one change. Shinkansens start too late for you to make it, as even on shinkansen it takes at least 3 1/2 hours and at least one change.

Next month, we're staying at the Narita Hilton the day before departure...there are often special rates of around 10,000 - 15,000 yen/night. It has a shuttle to the airport, and says it takes 10 minutes.

I've been looking into places close to Narita as I also will be traveling from Kyoto late the day before an 11 a.m. departure. Lyndie on this board stayed at the Narita Kikisui which she said had an airport shuttle and was close to Nartia's transportation and amenities. A bit less than the Hilton I think, at 8800 yen for a twin.

and this this one from that page the skycourt http://www.skyc.jp/hotel-new-narita/situnai-e.htm
has very inexpensive rooms and a free shuttle...4300 for a single and 7200 for a twin...is anyone familiar with this chain?

Kim,
You mention the Shinkansens...is this the fast/bullet train?
If so, can I use my JRP for travel on it?

Thanks,
Mary

Irish, yes, the Shinkansen is the Bullet train and you can use the JR Pass on it.

Irish: but you can't use the JRP on Nozomi shinkansen. It can be used on Kodama and Hikari shinkansen.
