Tokyo Hilton or Keio?

Hi. Anyone have a great or poor experience at either of these hotels? Thanks,

Kurt

The Keio Plaza Hotel is closer to Shinjuku Station than the Hilton. Both hotels are shown on this map: http://www.keioplaza.com/map/index.html

Hilton has a shuttle to the station but it ends rather early at night. Even the discounted rooms at the Hilton are going to be better than mediocre (as you suggested on the other thread). Actual bathrooms instead of the typical business hotel bathroom unit, for example. The lobby and restaurants are "upscale". Not much in the immediate area of the hotel.

I haven't been to the Keio Plaza Hotel, but "something special" for under $200 in Tokyo would be hard to find. ~depending on what "special" means.

The Hilton Shinjuku is far from mediocre. For the same price, you can get close to downright dumpy. Like mrwnrfl said, even the lowest level room at the Hilton has a real bathroom and the rooms are a decent size. The breakfast buffet there is very, very good...100% better than any breakfast on offer at any business hotel.

Keio Plaza is about the same in terms of rooms and niceness...but slightly more money. Closer to Shinjuku station by about 5 minutes. We found we could walk to the Hilton from the station in about 10 - 15 minutes, and the walk was quite nice.

There is also a Hyatt in the area, kind of diagonal to the Hilton, that friends stayed at and thought was fine, too.

I had a good time at the Keio Plaza Hotel. Keep in mind that it is the biggest hotel in the Shinjuku area. It is a true 4 star hotel just as the Hilton is but I would say twice the size and height (it's over 40 stories with two towers). The Hilton is nearer the park as the Keio is closer to the train station and the "action" areas of Shinjuku.

All that said we will be staying at the Century Hyatt Hotel when we stay in Tokyo next month as I am using some Gold Passport points on our stay.

Aloha!

We stayed at Keio and found it very good. It is located near City Hall, that wants to be a modern replica of Notre Damme church. If you have time, go at floor 42 (or maybe 46, I ma not sure) in City Hall (open till 11 pm) to have a very nice viwew ofthe city. It is free of charge.

Decisions, decisions.... first time to Japan. Keio sounds great with good reviews. There are lots of different rooms in this hotel to choose from on hotels.com. Should I go for a premier room (on some reviews people commented rooms in main wing needed a refurb) & on south side? Then is it better to have "club breakfast" or "Breakfast"?
Trying to choose the best option with best value!!!

Thank you very much everyone. You guys are really great. I think I've narrowed it down to these two. I may go with HiltonHonors and get the wife in without the added fee (Thanks Kim).
It looks like everything will be a little pricey in May, I guess I will just have to accept it.

Thanks again,

Kurt
