You'll want to check out the sakura matsuri (cherry blossom festivals). In Tokyo, that would probably be during the end of your stay. In addition to the festival schedule, you will want to get a handle on the blossom schedule (e.g. in Wash. D.C. the peak bloom is expected to occur after the festival).

Baseball!
No grand sumo tounament in April.
Actually, I saw at about.com that the cherry blossom festivals in Tokyo are during the end of March and beginning of April. One festival is in Shinjuku Kyoen.
Sakura matsuri, sounds nice. Shinjuku Kyoen > Gyoen if you mean the large (for Tokyo) park.

Bonjour All,

I'm just back from Tokyo, cherry-blossom-viewing (hanami) is in full bloom until the end of April. Expect huge crowds sitting on canvasses under the trees, eating, drinking and making merry, while huger crowds are strolling by. Everybody and everything is very relaxed.

A word of caution: hotels (especially inexpensive ones) are full at weekends.
