Thailand while 20 weeks pregnant?????

I just found out I may be pregnant. Happy, yes, but does this mean I can't go to Thailand in January for ten days when I'll be 21 weeks (four months) along???

We are only going to Bangkok for four days and Krabi for four days. All we want to do is hang out on the beach and explore the city at a leisurely pace. I have travelled to India countless time since I was a child and have stayed in "rustic areas" in Peru and Mexico and never had stomach problems (I am always careful about food and water). I am in excellent shape (5 foot 2, 100 pounds, very active). We are staying at the Lalaanta resort in Krabi and a hotel TBD in Bangkok (perhaps this is incentive to splurge for a luxury hotel).

I've travelled all over the world before with few problems. I'll be in my fourth month, second trimester - which appears to be the ideal time to travel. I am not due til late May/early June.

Searched on this forum and have seen that someone else was in the same situation last year (cindynyc1?). My plan right now is to just talk to my doctor (my appointment in Nov 2) and see how it goes and see how I feel in December. We can always cancel, right?

I would advise you not to go because it's much too risky to expose yourself to disease during that critical period of the baby's development. Thailand will still be there after the baby is born.

Do talk with your doctor. You will be past your first trimester, when the fetus is most vulnerable and when you are most likely to have morning sickness.

Both Bangkok and Krabi are areas where it is easy to stay "safe" in that there is no malaria and there are plenty of safe places to eat.

This is a good time to make sure you have all of your immunizations up to date.

Congratulations on the pregnancy!! How exciting!! I really do hope your doc says it's OK for you to travel to Thailand. This makes the idea of a relaxing vacation even more important for you. You'll be busier than ever once your baby arrives.

Such an exciting time! A last fling before a baby. Check with your doctor about a long air flight and any effects that might have, but the areas you are going to can be just as healthy for you as being home. Check that all your immunuztions are up to date as Kathie has said, and have fun.

Definitely going to ask the Doc - it's way too early to make any decisions and I did get travel insurance in case we have to cancel/postpone for travel reasons. It seems like other have done Thailand at the same stage (cindynyc1 - if you are out there , I would LOVE to talk with you).

Hi, I know this is an old post but I'd be interested to know if puttakka made the trip to Thailand as my situation is very similar. We had planned to accompany our friends as witnesses to their wedding in Krabi Thailand Feb2011 however all being well I will be approx 18 weeks pregnant at that time. I'll ask the doctor's advise but curious to know how puttakka go on.

The word 'may' in the opening sentence is the clue, lizzie.
