LL, you choose the oddest things to argue about. Yes, lots of people take the night trains, and plenty of them say they don't get good sleep. True, it isn't as bad as the train to Sapa, but it isn't the smoothness of European trains either.
Are you confusing the number of people who book sleepers on Thai trains with the number who are able to sleep reasonably well on the trains?
Anyway, this is obviously a case of individual differences. I expect anyone who has traveled a fair amount would be able to make a reasonable guess as to whether the Thai sleeper is for them from the info given.

Kathie. I'm not arguing, I'm telling you that what you posted on 5 march , copied below, is wrong, misleading, and rubbishes what I'd earlier posted...
<<<Be aware that while some people love taking night trains, most people get very little sleep on the Thai night trains. That may be fine with you, but be forewarned.>>>
I've not been to Vietnam, so can't comment on the Hanoi-Sapa overnight train. But I have travelled comfortably several times overnight in Thai 1st Class sleeping berths, and woke up in a different part of the country completely refreshed and ready to hit the road. And looking around the carriage I didn't notice any drooping tired faces.
You may as well use your argument for Long Haul air travel too. Tens if not hundreds of thousands fly long haul of several time zones every day of the year. The vast majority of them fly Economy, and if asked will say that they didn't get much quality rest during their flight. So would you put people off flying Long Haul in Economy? No,of course you wouldn't!
