MahaNaga expect to spend approx 1000 baht per head including drinks (but not including an exensive bottle of wine) - by Bkk standards I guess it is expensive but for what u get (ambience, amazing food gorgeously served) by weatern standards I think it is ok. Def make a reservation as loads of locals - both expat and others - frequent it - it was a fav for my partners co for farewell dinners!

Re: CM Mandarin Oriental. We were in CM a week ago and had lunch in Grand Lanna - the place of future Oriental Mandarin. We are travel agents and we were given after lunch a tour of the property. It is beautiful. Scheduled to open in Dec 2004. Not sure how they are on schedule but before we've met Oriental sales people on trade show in HK and they were excited about new property, said it is on time. The building is going around exisiting historical building, in spa for example, the ceiling has old painting on the wood. I saw the plans at Grand Lanna of future hotels, it is going to be a major competition to 4 Seasons.
We stayed at 4S and it was beautiful as well. We talked to 4S manager and surprisingly they are not concerned with competition, they said it will bring more high-end clientele to CM.
I will post Thailand trip report portion. BTW Grand Lanna restaurant is excellent. http://www.legrandlanna.com
