Thai Air tickets
Here is the problem. We are flying through to Bangkok on Sinagpore Air using frequent flyer tickets. From Bangkok, we want to fly to Chiang Mai, stay 5 days, then fly to Kunming China, with a return from Kunming to Bangkok. Thai Air has the flights available that work with our itinerary. The problem is that we cannot book these tickets online getting an eticket unless we pick the tickets up at the Bangkok city ticket office (which we cannot do). We can purchase a paper ticket here in the States and have it FedEx-ed to us, but the difference in price is substantial.
Anyone have any thoughts on how we can work around this? Perhaps buy tickets online and pick up the tickets in the Singapore downtown office? Anyone had a similar situation?

Joyce, try Eddie at American Express in Bangkok (recommended many times on this forum). His e-mail is [email protected].
Ask for the lowest cost fare and the price to express mail the tickets to you in the USA. It will be much cheaper.

I always use Eddie for situation like this. If you will be spending a night in Bangkok, Eddie will have the tickets delivered to your hotel so you can pick them up on arrival. Otherwise, as Craig says, have him express mail the tickets to you.

So you have FF miles on a Star Alliance carrier. You could get a FF award to travel Chiang Mai - Kunming - Bangkok. Would cost 40,000 miles (e.g. on United) for a relatively short trip, but might be worth it depending on the $ cost of airfare.
Or Bangkok- Chiang Mai, Kunming -Bangkok.
A Bangkok- Kunming roundtrip with a stopover in Chiang Mai probably would not be allowed.

Yeah, I'm sure Eddie can figure it out. I have a friend, who lives in Europe, and who just met me in Bangkok.Well, he had a mess of a situation. I told him to contact Eddie and Eddie straightened the whole mess out with both hotel reservations and flight reservations within Thailand. Happy Travels!
