Hi everyone,

My daughter is planning her Singapore/Malaysia itinerary for May and I'm trying to help her since I was just there (briefly) in August. When I did a Google search for 'how to get from Melaka to Kuala Lumpur', my post came up!

Unfortunately, as I was trying to find out how to get from KL to Melaka, I'm not sure the responses I received apply to her. She will be going to Melaka first, then KL, so we are trying to find the various ways for her to get from Melaka to KL. Besides taxi (I think more than she wants to spend), is there a direct bus? Can she take the train?

Thank you again for all your help. Oh, and btw, I loved KL & Malaysia. I'd be happy to go back again and, next time, allow time to stop in Melaka.

Yes, there are direct buses from Melaka to KL. The train is also a possibility, but with the frequent (and cheap and comfortable) buses, I think that is the way to go.

If you loved Malaysia, why are you now worried about your daughter's safety? In any case, the long distance buses are very good, and the train doesn't go to Melaka. I can conceive of no reason to take a taxi.

thursdaysd, To answer your question --
1) I was not traveling solo. I was with a male, my boyfriend.
2) My daughter is not a seasoned solo traveler.
3) I knew we were staying in decent areas as we were using Hilton points, so stayed in Hilton properties in every city.
4) Things might have changed in the last 8 months since I was there.
5) More than anything, I'm a mom. Mom's worry.

I think I found a website that gives information about buses from Melaka to KL -
http://www.expressbusmalaysia.com/bu...l-bus-terminal

I've looked all over the site and can't seem to find what the (A) and (C) designate on some of the fares. Air conditioning?

I also can't seem to figure out exactly where in KL the buses go to - KL Sentral? It would definitely not be helpful for her to take a bus to KLIA or LCCT.

Thanks for the quick responses!
Judy

A = Adult
C = Child

Buses from Melaka to Kl takes a bout 2hours... it's the most convenient mode of public transport between KL and Melaka.

Express buses usually stop at Puduraya (near Chinatown) or the new station Bus Sepadu Selatan. They don't usually stop at KL Sentral.

Here's a tripadvisor link on how on the latter bus station http://www.tripadvisor.com.my/ShowTo...rsekutuan.html

Yes, definitely air-conditioned buses.

The long distance buses in Malaysia are what I would call coaches. They are not the kind where your neighbor may have brought their chicks along for the ride and people are sitting in the aisle (or on the roof, lol).

I figure pretty much all of Malaysia - all I saw in a two to three week trip, anyway - is safe.

Hi there,
It’ll make sense to spend your short Malaysia time only in KL. No free tickets to Petronas towers anymore! As far as I know, it costs a steep 80 Ringgit. But it is still worth it. On the other hand, Melaka is nice enough to spend perhaps even only one day. Bus from KL takes only 2 hrs max. Many companies are leaving from the Southern Bus Station, called Bersepadu Selatan, every 30 min (reached by LRT to Bandar Tasik Selatan).
One more word to KL: Chinatown is worth to have a walk thru, that’s right. I liked the KL Tower a lot, you can look down on the Twin Towers from it. Our travel notes about Kuala Lumpur: http://konniandmatt.blogspot.com/200...-dec-2008.html, where we actually spent many months.
Happy Travels!
Cheers, Konni, www.konniandmatt.blogspot.com

Hi konniandmatt,
I think my daughter is planning 3 days each in Melaka and KL with a day total set aside for traveling from Singapore to Melaka and from Melaka to KL. I believe she is planning to take the overnight train from KL to Singapore. She's actually coming over tonight to go over her itinerary, so I really appreciate all the information about transportation.

Thanks,
Judy

On the night train issue, I find second class on Thai trains very comfortable. The berths are parallel to the side of the carriage, with curtains, so you get visual privacy. No need to pay for first class, but definitely don't plan to spend the night in third... For more on trains see seat61.com.

Thanks thursdaysd. My bf and I took the overnight train from KL to Singapore when we were there and got a Deluxe Sleeper. If I am reading the schedule correctly, it appears that the only options for my daughter are either 2nd class sleeper or Deluxe, HOWEVER, there is a notation that the Deluxe sleepers are not available beginning in March due to renovations and there's no end date given. So, they might, in fact, not be available for her. This leaves her only the 2nd class sleeper option, so I'm glad to hear that she should be fine with this.
