Suggest places in Uttarakhand

I am planning a trip with family to Uttarakhand in October. I live in Delhi and have never been to Uttarakhand. A lot of people around have suggested Nainital. Need to know the best places where I can have quality time. Suggest some stay options too.

You live in Delhi! You should be able to loads of info. from the locals.
But think about historic areas such as Lucknow. There is much history as well as beauty in that state. Even a good book can give you some tips.
We do not know what your interests are, so you should reseach a bit yourself right in Delhi.

Thanks for your inputs.. The whole idea behind sharing my concern here is to know about the overall experience of those who have been to Uttarakhand lately. Even a book fails sometimes, when it comes to overall experience and any book doesn't tell you everything because it is coming from one set of eyes and mind. And, any traveller who has been to Uttarakhand recently, can bring in a lot of difference. I would definitely think about Lucknow though. I and my family, we all love mountains and lush surroundings, in short we all are nature lovers.

Can you be a bit more specific? e.g. how much you have, budget, drive yourself, etc.
Post your question, and do your research, also on Indiamike.com which gets about 100X more traffic, with far more information, and a wider variety (age, budget, nationality) of responders, than dose this site.

Haridwar last year was delightful. Didn't get to Rishikesh, but it's nearby.

Think about Nanital and surrounding areas. Beautiful lake and natural beauty. Varanasi also is very popular and so is Rishikesh.
