Striking out on hotels in Ubud. Help please!
Hi all--
My husband and I are having no luck finding a hotel in Ubud for our late February trip. One by one, our top choices keep coming back to us with no availability -- or at least they don't have the type of room we want available. Thus far we've tried the Alam Indah and sister properties, the Tegal Sari, the Taman Rahasia, and the Tepi Sawah.
I would be grateful for any and all recommendations of places to try next! We're looking for somewhere reasonably close to Ubud (around 10 min drive, intermediate walking distance), small, with traditional Balinese decor. We really really want an outdoor bathtub/private pool, but I'm starting to think we might have to give this up. As far as price goes...under $150 would be nice.
Thanks!

You could give Rumah Rio (http://www.rumahrio.com/) a try. As it's new, it might not be booked yet (but it is very small).

Thanks to both of you. Unfortunately both of those option are just a bit out of our price range.
Right now we're considering the Agung Raka Bungalows, the Bali T House (which looks very cool) and the Alam Sari. Any opinions on these three options?

I just returned yesterday from Bali and Hong Kong and stayed at the Tepi Sawah Villas. Had you been able to secure a room there, I would have highly recommended them; it was a wonderful place - clean and private, and they also had free shuttle transportation to the central Ubud area.
I have heard very good things about the Alam Sari, but unfortunately do not have first hand knowledge since I didn't stay there. Good luck on finding accomodations, and if this is your first trip to Bali, trust me when I say you will absolutely love it.
Safe travels...

I don't know if you would be interested in a private villa, but we stayed last summer in a wonderful villa at the top of the Campuhan Steps, which is easy walking distance into Ubud -- Rumah Cinta --http://www.vrbo.com/103402 It's bigger than you need, but you would get your private pool. The house is gorgeous with interior garden bathrooms. I believe our rate was $175/nt, but since there are only 2 of you, maybe the owner could do better.
Also, breakfast is included and is provided by a guesthouse/cafe next door, Ibu Putu's Warung. The family that runs the warung/guesthouse cleans the villa every day, and the husband can provide services of car/driver. They were the nicest family, and we ate many meals there besides our breakfast because the food was so good.
I have a video of the house here: http://www.amywattbaker.com/Amys_Webpage/Bali.html

I haven't actually stayed at the Alam Sari but I've visited several times. It's a really nice place -- nice location, well run, serene, lots of Bali atmosphere. Culturally atuned.
Distance from Ubud central is more like 20+ minutes by car though. To me, this is a plus, but if you want to be close to town, this isn't a good choice.
In Ubud itself I'd look at the Komeneka (and the other new Komen, I forget the name). Also Ketut's Place, but only the newer, deluxe rooms.

We stayed at the Alam Sari a couple of years ago and loved it. Fairly remote location but nice rooms and good food. There is a great walk through the rice terraces and a couple of villages all the way into Ubud stunning scenery and v. friendly people. About 6 miles I would guess. The hotel also arrange a trip to take us up to the volcano for a bike ride around the area and all the way back down to the hotel. A great way to sppend half a day

I stayed at the Honeymoon Guesthouse a couple of years ago. Just off the main street and owned by Casa Luna. Very nice, but may not be exactly what you need.

You might have a look at www.balitravelforum.com which has a lot more Bali activity on it than here.

We are staying at Komaneka at Monkey Forest in May. I chose it primarily because of its very close proximity to Ubud. It might be a little higher than you have planned to spend. Be sure to check wotif.com for other last minute ideas.
