For something a little bit different we bought some Monks Slms Bowls from the monks bowl "village". Handmade and unique they make a great souvenir. Somewhat difficult to find the street where tey are made but worth the effort.

Thank you again everyone. I am getting so excited about this trip.
Sorry about the email address - it was on my profile before, I see they took down the email category of the profile, odd.
It is the below, which I use for Fodors and other online places.

sartoric, I never saw your comment - I just checked, it doesn't appear to have shown up?
Robert, thank you so much! I can already tell I am going to fall in love with Asia.

"guenmai......... great to see your post here. Maybe we will meet up in BKK later on this year!!??"
Carol, you can e-mail me. I'm scheduled to leave right after Christmas and won't be home until February. I've already bought the plane ticket and paid the accommodations.

Flygirl: I forgot to mention that the other January boutique is in the Oriental Place Mall where Cotton House is. Actually, that's the main January boutique that I go to. There's also one in Central World Mall unless it moved. I don't what has happened to it since the unrest and burning of the mall. Maybe they relocated. I know the sisters who own January boutique.
There's also another really good jewelry store, also for a more ethnic look. It's called Jaan and is in the RiverCity Mall (I think on the same floor with January). The owner of Jaan is originally from Finland.
