Shopping for Cloths in Bangkok
Hi, can anyone suggest a good shop/department store for high quality stuff like tablecloths, bedspreads, curtains? I would love to buy some things and ship them back to Italy so I am looking for a store rather than a market. We only have 3 days in Bkk so won't have much time to hunt around. Thanks!

Actually, a lot of the high quality products of that type are imported, so they're rather expensive. For example, all the good bed sheets I've bought in Bangkok were made in the USA. Ready-made curtains are also almost all imported.
For some nice local items, like silk table runners, you can look around at Naraiphand, in the same building as the Intercontinental Hotel. Jim Thompson also has some nice household items.

Yes, go to Naraiphand or the main Jim Thompson store on Suriwongse Rd. There's also the Jim Thompson outlet store which is east out Sukhumvit Rd. about 10 minutes past the On Nut skytrain stop. I take the skytrain to On Nut (the end of the line) and then get off and flag a taxi the rest of the way. Off the top of my head, I can't remember the soi (lane) number that it's on, but one of the fodorites will probably remember as many of us have been shopping there for years. The website is jimthompson.com.
As far as bed linens, I wouldn't purchase them in Bangkok. They are ridiculously expensive and the quality isn't that great. You could always buy some gorgeous fabric, at Jim Thompson, and then have curtains made when you get home. Happy Travels!

I forgot to add, that a place that I've shopped at for over a decade is called, "Come Thai". It's in the Amarin Shopping Center (Chitlom skytrain station) which is in the heart of town and right down from the Erawan Shrine. You can access the entrance to that shopping center from the skytrain bridge. If you have a Nancy Chandler map, it will be on the map.
Come Thai has hundreds of pieces of pre-cut and gorgeous ethnic Thai fabric. Nong has had the shop for about 20 years, I think. For me it's fabric heaven. Her pieces make great table runners and some of the larger ones are great for table cloths. She's on the 3rd floor, I think it is. There are tons of other fabric stores in that mall, but I really like her fabrics. I've bought many table runners there. She also now carries handmade Thai shawls that she gets from northern Thailand. I bought 4 beautiful ones for friends. Happy Travels!

one thing that many of us do is to have things made there...you could do this and have them shipped....you need exact measurements....
jim thompson main store is one good place to start...out back, upstairs is their home department...
paya is a company that used to be on sukhumvit but has moved further into the sois of sukhumvit....they do all kinds of custom work...i think they are around soi 53???
we have taken fabrics from italy to thailand to have things made, mostly clothing...
one good dept store to look for things is central chitlom on plenochit rd, right on the skytrain route...
