Yes, you can take the escaltor almost right to the Bishop Lei. You do have to walk a bit from the top of the escalator, about 2-3 blocks. The escalator is fun, but there is a bit of walking involved and it takes about 20-30 minutes to get all the way up from Central, so it's not for every day travel, IMO.
Ask both hotels about the size of the room. Also ask about closet size. The one thing with the suite at the Bishop Lei is the small closet space. The YMCA may have double sliding closets, don't know.

Hope this is not too late but definitely go with the YMCA! The Bishop Lei is not within walking distance from Central. It is uphill and I can almost guarantee that you will get lost on the first couple of attempts! The escalator is not close to the Bishop Lei either. It will take you about 30 minutes to get to the Bishop Lei from Central by foot whereas the YMCA is 2 minutes away from all the action!
