Does Singapore put up Christmas lights like Hong Kong?
I have seen the Christmas decorations in HK. This year I visit Singapore in late November or early December. I would like to know if Singapore decorates the skyscrappers like Hong Kong does. Thanks.

I've been in Singapore many times and at Christmas time and yes, in the malls, I've seen lights...but don't remember seeing them outside a lot. It's VERY crowded in Singapore around Christmas. It's not my favorite time to go. It can easily be shoulder-to-shoulder when you get off the MRT at Orchard and try to walk through the underground mall area. And Orchard Road and other areas are also crowded. Maybe early December will be OK...I don't know...but a few days before Christmas until after the beginning of January is crazy. Happy Travels!

Guenmai, do you think it's more crowded in Singapore than in Hong Kong? I always find Hong Kong more crowded.
While many of the displays are inside the malls, I've also seen lots of areas outside of malls lit up along with huge displays. I've been in SIngapore many times around the holidays, and while there were lots of shoppers, I didn't find it to be as crazy as it is in the US!

Yes, there are extensive Christmas light displays beginning on Tanglin Road and continueing down Orchard Road. The lights go up around the beginning of November and they have the official light-up usually sometime right before American Thanksgiving (you can probably check with STPB or look on their website for the actual date). There is usually a theme and as Kathie mentioned there is a competition that the shopping centers take quite seriously. Orchard Road gets very busy in the evenings at this time of year with people that drive down Orchard Road just to see the decorations. However, I have not seen the decorations in Hong Kong so I can't compare them - someone else may be able to let you know what the differences are between the two cities. Hope this helps a little. Have a great holiday! Enjoy!!

just to add that this year's light up is suppose to be huge and will run from Tanglin Mall all the way to Marina Center with lots of street festivities. It does get crowded as you approach Christmas but late Nov should be fine. When along Orchard Rd, do check out centrepoint mall. It usually bags the 1st prize for best shopping mall decoration. There's also a huge christmas tree inside ngee ann city, and fake snow at Tanglin mall. happy travels

The christmas decorations are really nice. There is always a theme for every year. Walk along singapore most busiest road, starting from the shopping mall (Tanglin Mall) till end of Orchard Road(Plaza Singapura). U can also go to Robinsons at City Hall MRT.

Just a quick note to anyone who is interested that this evening as I was driving down Tanglin Road I looked up and....Christmas garland was already strung between the street lanterns! Fairy lights and Christmas decorations were also in the giant tree in front of the Tanglin Post Office at the beginning of the Tanglin Road shopping area. SO the full scale decorations should be going up any day. Light up still won't be until mid to end of November but in Singapore it is already "beginning to look a lot like Christmas"
