Shots for Thailand

Going to spend 3 weeks in northern Thailand. Shots are not required to go there. My travel companion's doctor is recommending she get Typhoid and Hep A vaccines. My inclination is to not take any shots. What do you think? Are they necessary?

Thanks.

We took typhoid pills for our last trip to SE Asia as the protection lasts longer than the shot. It protects you from contanimated water, food. It's good to have when traveling anywhere. Also agree with poster above.

Hi,

It's always better to be safe than sorry when you go abroad.. But it's not mandatory to take these shots.

Yes, as Bob says, you should have all the vaccines you should have to stay at home: tetanus, Hep A. You should also make sure your measles/mumps/rubella is up to date. Typhoid is also well-advised.

Why ignore a doctor and seek advice of laymen?
Maybe get a second opinion off a doc who specialises in tropical travel?
