Joy

I stayed at the Perdana a couple of weeks ago and the hotel was excellent. Nicely decorated rooms with A/C and ceiling fans, fantastic views, staff were friendly and helpful, three great pools and beautiful gardens. There were nice touches like cold towels and complimentary fresh fruit around the pool. The beach isn't the best for swimming but the hotel pools more than makes up for that.
Hi Joy

Yes that was me as well! The food at the hotel was of very good quality - although expensive by Malaysian standards. The hotel has three restaurants the nicest of which is the Sambar Ria located just above the beach. The hotel is very peaceful but only a short distance from Kuah town (about 4 Ringett by taxi) for alternative dining. The cheapest rate I found was through the Sheraton Website (www.starwood.com) it was also worth the upgrade to a seaview room.

We stayed at the Perdana last year and thought it was excellent. Like David says, the pools more than make up for the narrow strip of beach.
The hotel restaurants are very good, if a little pricey, but if you take the buffet breakfast, you'll hardly need anything else to eat until evening! If you do get peckish, there are fruit bowls around the hotel and the pool bar staff bring more (free) fruit around each afternoon. It's also just a very short taxi ride into Kuah, where you'll find a good choice of restaurants and hawker stalls.
If you like wildlife, try and stay in a room on the Kuah town side of the hotel and you'll get a morning show each day with long-tailed macaques, monitor lizards, hornbills and lots of other birds.

Joy

The Perdana had a range of daily kids activities and a kids club. They also have their own pool although they seemed to particularly enjoy the ocean pool with its submerged boulders and fountains. When I was there the hotel was full with a good mix of age ranges, families, couples etc. There was ample room for everyone in the well kept extensive grounds.

David

Hi Joy:

We were in Langkawi 2 years ago and stayed at the Berjaya in one of the suites on stilts overlooking the water. We had friends that stayed at the Sheraton whom we visited. I preferred the Berjaya.

They have a good choice of eating venues in the hotel. Also the hawker stalls in Kuah town were remarkable good. The beach at the Berjaya is better - not as good as Krabi or Phuket or Chaweng (for length) but better than the Sheraton. The pool area is very nice. Nice gardens, good service. Send me an e-mail if you want more information.

Have a great vacation!

Hi Joy
There are a few photos taken in the grounds of the Perdana on our photo album site http://communities.msn.co.uk/ElaineMikesHols/honeymoonlangkawi1.msnw?Page=1
As you can see, we were on honeymoon, so we weren't exactly over-interested in anybody else! But there did seem to be a mix of couples and families around. We also thought about staying at the Berjaya, but after studying its website, it seemed to us to be more aimed at the corporate market and we thought that the Perdana offered the more personal kind of atmosphere that we were looking for - we weren't disappointed!
