Sheraton Laguna Update Request

My travel agent has just informed me that she could not book the Dusit Laguna Phuket and has proposed the Sheraton in its place. Most of the reviews here and elsewhere are rather dated - perhaps reflecting the Sheraton itself which is more than once referred to as "tired".

Our ideal would be characterized by lush surroundings and beautiful beached, with little or no requirement for glitzy night life.

Any new information/feedback would be greatly appreciated.

BangTao Beach - on which both resorts sit - and a wonderful beach and away from the tourist hoards in Patong, Kata, and Karon Beaches. But . . . not so far that you will want for good food and activities (if desired). Also the major tourist areas are only about 25 minutes away by taxi if need be.

There are numerous resorts in the area - not all of them are large. Even in the Laguna Resorts complex you will have other alternatives such as the Allamanda, Laguna Beach Resort, Banyan Tree. South of that area are the Amora, Sunwing, Bang Tao Beach Resort, and more.

Try these site to learn more about the area:

www.PhuketGoldCoast.com

www.PhuketDelight.com

www.Phuket.com

That should give you more info on the island and the area.

Enjoy!

Almost any of the places in the Laguna complex are quite nice. If you're looking for something new and different, you might look into the Indigo Pearl (http://www.indigo-pearl.com/). It's north of the Laguna Complex.

We've just returned from 3 nights at The Allamanda Laguna Phuket. Now there is the epitome of the word 'tired'!! The Sheraton's public spaces are lovely. They have SE Asia's longest pool and a baby elephant is brought down to the beach each afternoon for a swim. They did a nice job with New Year's Eve - a pretty buffet on the sand and lovely lanterns that floated up in the sky.

I thought the stretch of beach was beautiful. The most upscale resort there is The Banyon Tree, but the Sheraton looked very very nice to me.

Go the the JW Marriott, great place to go and spend some beach and pool time. Great choices to eat as well.
