I'm returning to the US from working in India, have a bit less than a week to stop someplace nice.
I want to get 2-3 pieces of (women's) clothing tailored.
I'm fond of museums and cultural sites.
I've visited Singapore and, even more often, Bangkok, and happily achieved my admittedly silly goals a number of times. However, it's time for something new, if at all possible.
So, Seoul or Tokyo? Or someplace better, along the way? Why, if if you can tell me? And specific tailor recommendations? (I can find almost everything except the tailors, if I must.)

I don't know that either Seoul or Tokyo are known for their tailoring, but Hong Kong is. I used Maxwell Tailors in Kowloon when I last had clothing made there. They are excellent, but like everything in Hong Kong, not cheap.

Vietnam is also known for tailoring, especially in Hoi An, and should be cheaper than the other suggestions.

we would 2nd hoi an, not far from danang airport.. yala is the best shop there..

tokyo is far more interesting than seoul... but neither is really known for clothing..

While the cost of tailoring in VN is low, all of the garments I examined (and chose not to buy) were not well made.

Unless you are made of money, tailoring is not really done in Japan.

I wanted to go to Hoi An, actually, and even have a list of tailors to investigate there, but I simply will not have time to get a visa for Vietnam this trip.

Reading the op, Hong Kong is what I would suggest.

Between Seoul and Tokyo, niether meet the criteria that you outline.

You can arrange to pick up your Vietnamese visa on arrival. I used Tonkin Travel (http://www.tonkintravel.com/id17.html ) for that on my last trip, but there are other agencies.

my wife's garments made at the shop i named were very very well made, but we gave them plenty of time to do it... our bkk tailor commented on the quality of the sewing..
