The 180,000 points we redeemed for our February flights just lost about 1/2 their value but I'd still have a hard time paying $4000 per person with this promotion. Maybe that's why there is talk about ending these flights.

Rates are $3564 for LA and $3811 for New York.
Aren't these flights (like the Singapore Airlines biz flights) normally more because of the higher quality of the product - lay flat seating and fancy video on demand?
Anybody know what these normally cost?

To clarify for Bisbee and Ericka - the reason the cost of the Thai flights is higher is because they are the only direct flights to Bangkok from the USA. And yes, the Airbus A340-500 planes are practically brand new and fitted with lie flat (170 deg tilt) seating in business class as well as VOD in all classes. The sale is being promoted as a half-price sale but when I checked, the "regular" cost for the JFK-BKK flight in business class was about $6000 pp.

Can you spell "Bait & switch?" Just about every time I phone to book one of these great "Specials," they are unavailable, but, oh, if you pay this much more, we have lots of seats. Malaysia air just had a $599 out of LA or NY - not a seat available, oh, but here we have ths one at $790 & then $850 (something like that). It is all bait and switch.

Craig, I know about the flight. I've been on it before and that's the flight I'm on next week. I only paid $2500 for Biz Class, and I've got an extra flight on my ticket (HCMC-BKK). The prices quoted by Ericka are before they add the taxes. $4000 isn't a good deal.

Bisbee, your first response was not exactly clear. It implied that there were other direct flights from USA to Bangkok and I wanted to clarify that there are not. I said before and agree with you that $4000 is not a particularly good deal.

The non-stop is most beneficial to those flying coach, as it cuts down on flying and total travel time. But if one's flying business class, then I think many won't mind the longer one-stop, and won't pay extra for the non-stop. Perhaps except business people. But there probably aren't enough people flying US-Bangkok on business.
